Three Siena College digital photography students had their photos accepted into the annual College Student Show at The Photo Center of the Capital District.
Psychology major Victoria Blass’13, history major David Ibanez ’13 and English major Brian Morr ’13 were recognized at the opening reception last Saturday.
Blass is an amateur in the photography field, which made her artistic success a pleasant surprise. “I really had no expectation, so I was excited to hear that my work had gotten accepted,” said Blass, whose photo depicted Alaska’s majestic landscape.
The process was completely foreign to Morr as well. “This is the first time I have done something like this,” said Morr. His photo, a close-up of a pair of boots, showcases his attention to detail.
The annual show is open to all enrolled college students in the extended Northeast Region. Students were given free rein to include any subject matter and photographic methods.
“It’s a wonderful sense of achievement and recognition for our students to get their work accepted into this photography show,” said Liz Blum, M.F.A., assistant professor of creative arts.
Similar to professional competitions, there was an entry fee to submit their work and the top 50 images were selected for the show. The success of the students is a testament to their raw artistic talent which is being developed through their classroom experiences.
“I have never entered my photos in anything like this, but I thought if I was chosen it would be a nice personal achievement,” Ibanez said. His photo featured birds, displaying his passion for wildlife photography.
The College Student Show will be open until April 14, 2013. The Photo Center of the Capital District is located at 404 River Street in Troy, N.Y.
