Accreditation, Accountability, Assessments

OVERVIEW

The Siena College Education Department and its initial teacher preparation programs are recognized by eight accrediting bodies. All the programs prepare individuals to work as teachers or in other roles in schools.

The Education Department and all licensure programs offered are fully accredited through 2018 by the country’s leading accreditation board for the preparation of teachers: National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education

The inital teacher preparation program prepares students to teach in secondary schools as well as elementary schools. NCATE accredited means that our teacher preparation licensure programs meet national rigorous standards set by the teaching field at large including classroom teachers, profession, and members of the public relevant to the needs of today's classrooms.

This accreditation demonstrates that teacher candidates have been systematically assessed before they are recommended for licensure to help k-12 students learn.

NCATE accreditation and recognition provides added assurance to students and prospective employers that our degree programs meet the highest professional standards.

TRANSITION TO CAEP

In November 2010, NCATE merged with the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) to become the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), combining the two premiere accrediting organizations as a single accrediting agency for reform, innovation, and research in educator preparation.
