BRIEF BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT:
I was born in The Netherlands and studied journalism before I came to the United States. In this country I worked as a pre-school teacher, a special education teacher, and as a social worker. I have also taught courses at the School of Social Welfare, University at Albany, and at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. My professional interests are in the areas of school social work, social work with youth and families, gender identity, and qualitative research methods.
B.S. Community and Human Services: Empire State College
MSW: University at Albany – licensed social worker (LMSW)
M.S. Educational Psychology (Special Education): University at Albany – certified special ed. teacher
PhD candidate, Social Welfare: University at Albany (expected 2013) – dissertation title: Heteronormativity, homonormativity, and virtue ethics: School social workers reflect on gender variance in the classroom.
I am the lucky dad of two wonderful kids (and two shih tzus, Chopstick and Eggroll). My favorite band is Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. One day I hope to write a great novel.
