Seven Franciscan friars founded Siena College in 1937. Then, and every day since, friars have played an integral and irreplaceable role promoting the Franciscan tradition on our campus. Our friars represent our mission and contribute to Siena’s distinct advantage in the higher education landscape, but as the overall population of friars declines, it will be harder to maintain their robust presence at Siena. Anticipating that concern, the College proposes the FMF to guarantee specific funding exists to recruit friars to campus to fill specific roles and advance mission-oriented projects.
