Our Visual Art & Design program invites students to exercise imaginative thinking, engage in critical discourse, and learn the technical skills needed to support their passion for the arts. The major is built on a strong foundation in the practices of traditional and new media, a deep understanding of the cultural impact of art throughout time, and the belief that imaginative thinking and personal expression can enrich our ways of seeing and communicating.

Our faculty actively advise and mentor students from the moment they enter the program. Our program has small studio-based classes in: drawing, design, figure studio, painting, 3-D design, photography (both digital and film), graphic design, video and more. Students have opportunities for professional development through internships, independent studies, and annual art shows. Students’ final year is a year-long intensive studio course that culminates in a capstone exhibition.

The Foy Hall Gallery and Yates Gallery provide students with on-campus opportunities to exhibit work, curate shows, and work directly with professional artists. The college’s proximity to major art institutions like Mass MOCA and Storm King Art Center, as well as gallery nights in Albany, Troy, and Hudson the student experience.
