Siena Experiment Arrives at the International Space Station

On August 3, Lindsay McTague ’13 was sitting in her apartment at Duke University where she is pursuing doctoral studies in electrical engineering on a full scholarship. She was riveted to the images of a rocket shooting into space from a launching pad in Japan. She had a personal stake in the success of that launch: an instrument she helped to construct was on board.

Jodi O’Donnell, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, and Lucas Tucker, Ph.D. assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry, have received a Multi-Investigator Cottrell College Science Award from one of America’s oldest foundations, the Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA).

Siena’s student union is named for professional golfer Gene Sarazen H’78. “The Squire” was the first golfer to win all four major golf tournaments to complete the career Grand Slam.

After spending four years of their lives learning and growing together, Siena’s Class of 2013 reunited for its 100 Days After Graduation Party at the historic Saratoga Race Course on August 17. More than 200 graduates attended this special day organized by the Office of Alumni Relations.

Pre-Law Fast Track

Eric Brenner ’14 grew up in Clifton Park, N.Y., just minutes from historic Saratoga Race Course. While he's been to the Race Course many times, the finance major and Pre-Law student gained insight into how it’s evolved by participating in Siena’s Summer Legal Fellows Program. Brenner was placed at Albany Law School where he researched medication policy in horseracing and the histories of the New York Racing Association and Saratoga Race Course, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

Physics Professor Accelerates Undergrad Research

Matt Bellis, Ph.D., assistant professor of physics and astronomy, secured a $204,000 National Science Foundation grant to work on research with Cornell University and the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) collaboration. The group will be working on a physics experiment being performed at the world’s most powerful particle accelerator in Geneva, Switzerland.
