Rajshree Marhatta '20, an international student and biology major from Kathmandu, Nepal

In three sentences, describe yourself and your journey to Siena:

I was born and raised in Kathmandu in Nepal. My father came to the United States to get his master’s degree in Ohio, then moved to Connecticut to get his Ph.D. I initially chose Siena because it was fairly close to my current family home, but then my parents just moved to Texas, so now they are far away!

What are you most looking forward to as you begin your Siena experience?

Meeting new people and all the classes I’ll be taking. I’m hoping to find what I really love to do. I’m undecided now about what path I want to take in life and I’m hoping Siena can help me find the answer to that.

What were some of the driving factors in your decision to enroll at Siena?

I wanted to go to a smaller school, one where I could really get to know my classmates and professors. Also, Siena was also one of the more affordable options I considered and that made a difference as well.

What classes and extracurricular activities do you have planned for this semester?

I’m looking forward to my calculus class. I’ll also be taking biology and computer science. At this point I’m a biology major but I may change that to undeclared.  I will be going to the Club Fair on Friday to see what kinds of activities they have for students outside the classroom. And, I will also need to get a job!

What is the most important thing you brought with you to Siena? What is the most important thing you left behind?

The most important thing I brought to Siena are pictures of my family and friends. I couldn’t carry too much with me on the plane!
The most important thing I left behind are my parents.
