To address best practices in social services and social justice, Siena College hosted its annual Engage for Change regional conference on May 16.
The conference connects area engagement practitioners, students and faculty from a wide variety of community organizations and colleges. More than 120 attendees participated in sessions designed around this year’s theme of engaging diverse communities. The presentations, teaching demonstrations, and roundtable discussions highlighted inclusive practices in the classroom and beyond.
This year’s conference was hosted by Siena’s Center for Academic Community Engagement (ACE) and organized by Katherine Burt ’17 of Derry, N.H. and Tia Brown ’18 of Readsboro, Vt.
Featured speakers included Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino ‘78; Kristie A. Ford, Ph.D., of Skidmore College; Carol Weisse, Ph.D., of Union College; Monica Kurzejeski, deputy mayor or Troy; and Carolyn McLaughlin, president of the Albany Common Council.
