Fr. Kevin Mullen ’75, O.F.M., Ph.D., who served as Siena’s president since 2007, steps down from his post today.

Mullen announced his resignation at a press conference on June 4 after he was elected provincial minister of the Holy Name Province, the largest Franciscan community in the United States and Siena’s founding institution.

During Mullen’s tenure, Siena College has experienced growth and transformation even amidst an economic recession and a changing landscape in higher education.

The college’s achievements under Mullen’s leadership include:

  • Development of a five-year strategic plan focusing on academic student engagement, resources, diversity and athletics.
  • Opening of three new buildings: New Hall, Rosetti Hall and Trustco Bank Center.
  • A $10 million increase in financial aid, including an increase of Pell grant financial aid by 50%, which provides more financial support to lower income families.
  • The percentage of diverse students increased from 9.8% in 2004 to 20.7% in 2013.
  • Siena’s sports programs won 16 MAAC Championships and appeared in 12 NCAA tournaments.
  • The Graduation Success Rate for student athletes has been at least 93%, among the highest in the nation for Division I schools.
  • Giving increased by 53%.
  • The endowment increased from $104 million to $132.
  • A $50 million comprehensive campaign was launched in 2013 and more than $43 million has already been raised to support its initiatives.

Siena trustee and Vice President for Franciscan Mission at St. Bonaventure, Br. Ed Coughlin, O.F.M., Ph.D., will serve as Siena College’s interim president.
