Frankenstein and Frankenstein’s monster are among the most enduring characters of modern literary and popular culture. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein (1818), Siena College is sponsoring a series of events.
FRANKENSTEIN: 200 Years of Fear and Thinking will bring author Mary Shelley’s creation Frankenstein to life on Siena’s campus. Through Frankenstein-themed course discussions, film screenings, dorm discussions, a theatrical production, public lectures, and even a cabaret evening with the theme “monster mash,” our Saints will bring the 1818 novel into our current world.
The bicentennial year (1818) spans two academic years. Siena’s events will kick off with a Halloween 2017 showing of two classic films Frankenstein, and Bride of Frankenstein. Halloween 2018 will be marked by showings of Tim Burton’s film Frankenweenie and Mel Brooks’ now classic Young Frankenstein.
