Siena students gained an international perspective and presented their research during the tenth annual Siena-Concordia Globalization Conference.

The two-day conference, which is held on campus every other year, focused on city life and migration. Siena students offered a variety of perspectives on urban sustainability, migrants, the movement of people and gender issues in an international context. Students from Concordia University’s Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability in Montreal also shared their experiences.

One of the presentations on urbanization and the loss of traditional culture in Tanzania stemmed from Jamie Desrosier’s ’15 experience studying abroad during her junior year. “When we got the assignment for the conference, I immediately thought of my experiences Tanzania,” she said.

During the conference, Siena students also had the opportunity to host a student from Concordia for the night. This allowed them to form a personal connection with an individual student.

The conference was planned, organized and executed largely by a committee of students of different majors pursuing a minor in International Studies.

Many of the student presenters were enrolled in the Introduction to International Studies course. The class takes an interdisciplinary look at the various facets of globalization by examining the media, literature, politics and economics.
