Stephanie Richemond '03 was recently selected for the 2013 Educator of Excellence Award from the New York State English Council. The honor is given to an educator who inspires not only their students but other teachers as well. Richemond, who is an English teacher at Merrick Avenue Middle School in Long Island, was chosen based upon the lesson plans and instructional materials she developed for the new common core this past summer.

“I'm thrilled to be honored as this was a complete surprise,” Richemond said.

The awards ceremony was held in Albany and during her visit she was able to catch up with faculty and staff at Siena who helped shape her into the educator she is today.

“Cynda Brousseau, Meg Woolbright, Fr. Ken (Paulli), Dr. Munir and Mary Fitzgerald made sure I got the most out of my Siena experience,” the HEOP graduate said. "It was an exciting time for me because I was passionate about what I was learning and they made me eager to learn more," she said.

Today she shares this enthusiasm for learning with her students and colleagues at Merrick Ave. Middle School.
