Academics, Research/Grant Activity, Siena in the News

KeyBank Foundation recently made a gift of $7,500 to the Siena College Broadcast and Society Program in honor of WNYT Channel 13 news anchor Benita Zahn, who was the recipient of this year's Key4Woman Inspire Award.

The donation will allow the College to purchase two new HD cameras for students in the broadcast program, as well as update equipment such as microphones, tripods and cables.

Rebecca Taylor, J.D., director of the broadcast program, says that this contribution will insure that students will have advanced technology at their fingertips and develop the skills their future broadcast employees are looking for.

"This is a significant contribution to our program because it puts state-of-the-art technology in the hands of our students," said Taylor. "We are grateful to KeyBank for this very generous donation. It's overwhelming when one of our community partners exhibits such support for our program."

Zahn has long been considered a member of the Siena family and has served as a member of the broadcast program's faculty. Siena College President, Br. F. Edward Coughlin, O.F.M., spoke to the Capital Region Chamber about Zahn's impact on the College:

"Siena College is proud to partner with KeyBank to honor Benita Zahn in recognition of her many contributions to the Capital Region. As a former faculty member, Benita impacted the early development of Siena's communications program. Today, it is one of the college's more popular minors. We thank KeyBank for their years of generosity to Siena and congratulate Benita Zahn on her many achievements."

The College plans to host an event to thank KeyBank and Zahn this fall.
