Each fall Siena welcomes a robust, right-fit freshman class to join our community of Saints.

Those hundreds of students don’t appear on campus by magic – it takes exceptional innovation and creativity to reach prospective students and support the College’s enrollment goals. And it’s a community effort.

The American Marketing Association (AMA) and the AMA Foundation have taken notice. At their annual higher education marketer conference held in Chicago in November, Siena College received the first-ever AMA Emerging Marketer in Higher Education Award.

This new award recognizes exceptional creativity and ingenuity within the higher education marketing landscape and celebrates individuals, teams or organizations that have demonstrated outstanding innovation in traditional and/or digital realms, according to the AMA. Siena was in excellent company with fellow finalists that included Yale and Notre Dame.

The award was accepted by Allison Turcio ’06, Ed.D., Siena’s assistant vice president for enrollment and marketing.

“I am so proud of the work that led to this award: a student-centric, data-driven marketing strategy developed by a cross-functional team from marketing, communications, admissions, financial aid, enrollment management and experience,” said Turcio. “It’s a strategy that each of these areas takes action on every day in big and small ways.”

Siena was also a finalist for the team award for Higher Education Marketer of the Year, which went to Oklahoma State.

Jason Rich ’98, vice president for strategy, communications and outreach, said the AMA recognition underscores the “exceptional creativity and ingenuity” demonstrated by Siena’s marketing team.

“In a competitive field where innovation is key, Siena’s marketing team under the leadership of Allison Turcio develops forward-thinking, audience-centered marketing plans built by community members from different areas of the College,” said Rich. “Strategically framed around the needs and desires of our audience, these marketing efforts have set Siena apart in higher education. This achievement is not just a celebration of our past success but a testament to the pivotal role innovative marketing plays in our ongoing efforts.”

He noted that Siena’s recent enrollment success proves that Siena's Education for a Lifetime story is captivating, and “our message is resonating with our target audiences.”

“Looking forward, this recognition reinforces the importance of continuing to strengthen demand for Siena College.”

Ned Jones, vice president for enrollment and marketing, said it is an honor for Siena to be recognized among the very best in higher education marketing.

“Our student-centered approach to marketing is innovative while representing our Franciscan values,” said Jones. “The cross functional team that contributed to building the plan that was recognized included students and staff from the Experience Team, Financial Aid, Admissions, and Marketing. It was an honor for Allison Turcio to accept this award on behalf of such dedicated individuals!”
