Academics

After a national search, Siena College has selected Professor of Management and Executive Director of Siena’s Institute for Leadership Development Charles Seifert, Ph.D. as its new dean of the School of Business.

“Siena College has an excellent reputation in the community for outstanding faculty, students and academic programs. Under Dr. Seifert’s leadership, we will have the opportunity to continue our plan of academic excellence through our undergraduate and graduate programs with the key involvement of our alumni and community partners,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Linda Richardson, Ph.D.

Seifert has taught at Siena College since 1996. Prior to working at Siena, Seifert held several positions in banking and finance. As a banker, he worked in branch operations, was a branch manager and vice president of commercial lending. Following his banking career, Seifert was the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce’s chief financial officer.

Seifert has also worked as a leadership consultant for several public and private organizations, primarily focusing on enhancing the effectiveness of their leaders. He has presented on the topics of leadership, ethics, strategy, assessment and enhanced teaching methods to organizations ranging from General Electric to the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province.

"I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with the faculty, administrators, staff, alumni business community and students in delivering the best possible educational experience. Our goals and efforts will continue to be focused on providing our students with The Education of a Lifetime,” said Seifert.

He holds a B.A. in economics from the University at Buffalo, an M.B.A. in finance from Sage Graduate School, and a Ph.D. in organizational studies from the University at Albany.

Seifert’s teaching and research interests include leadership effectiveness, enhancing multi-source feedback programs, influence strategies, corporate governance and applied statistics. He has presented his research at more than 35 regional, national and international conferences and his work has been published in several highly-influential peer-reviewed journals. Seifert is currently writing a textbook on leadership.

Seifert lives in Ballston Spa with his wife Debbie and two children. He replaces Professor of Management Frederick DeCasperis, Ed. D. who served as the interim dean of the School of Business.
