Motivated accounting students at Siena College will soon be able to receive two college degrees in four years in a new accelerated accounting program.

Siena has developed an intensive “3+1” accounting program that will enable students to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accounting and a Master of Science in Accounting (M.S.A.) in four years. The program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

“The courses taken will be exactly the same as those in a traditional five-year program,” said Charles F. Seifert, Ph.D., dean of Siena’s School of Business. “It’s compressed into a shorter period of time for students who are especially motivated and want to begin their careers a year earlier.”

Students are being recruited for the fall of 2017, but those interested may enroll in the program as early as this fall. Students can graduate with a B.S. in business in three years and then go on to receive an M.S.A. in the fourth year of study. Upon completion of the M.S.A., graduates will meet the educational requirements necessary to sit for the New York State Certified Public Accountant exam.

The College also offers a traditional Master of Science in Accounting for those who choose to pursue a traditional path to receiving both degrees.

The M.S.A. program was added at Siena in 2009 in response to high demand from Siena alumni and current students in what is one of the College’s most popular majors.

“Our master’s accounting program has been extremely successful since it was introduced eight years ago,” said Seifert. “Our M.S.A. alumni have a 100 percent job placement rate after graduation.”

Earlier this year, Siena announced the creation of a customizable business degree that will offer a bachelor’s in business where students have the option of choosing at least two concentrations to fulfill their major requirements. Students can choose among 20 distinct concentrations, resulting in 154 unique combinations.
