Rising in the U.S. News & World Report Rankings

Siena continues to be recognized as one of the “best” colleges by U.S. News & World Report. This year, Siena improved its ranking from #126 to #113 among the top tier of liberal arts colleges. The College was also included on the Princeton Review’s “Best 379 Colleges” and Forbes “Top Colleges” lists this year.

Painting as Performance Art

Siena College Creative Arts Professor Scott Nelson Foster was profiled in this Times Union article, which highlights his participation in “The Matador’s Prayer: A Celebration of Spanish Music and Culture,” from the Musicians of Ma’alwyck. During the program, Foster will be painting onstage with the canvas projected onto a video screen.

Siena College Move-in Day

Zipcars Come to Campus

New students were not the only new additions to campus this fall. The College also added Zipcars. The car sharing service gives all members of the Siena community affordable access to cars by the hour or day. The addition was featured on the Times Union’s “Getting There” blog.

How Snakes Climb Trees

Assistant Professor of Biology Greg Byrnes, Ph.D. was the lead author of a paper detailing how snakes climb trees. His research was published in Biology Letters and featured in many national publications. Click here to read an article that appeared in National Geographic.

Robin Williams Death Heightens Discussion of Depression

Word of Robin Williams’ death spread on social media faster than the frenetic pace at which the actor delivered many of his famous lines. Professor of Social Work Carla Sofka, Ph.D. has researched death and grieving, including celebrity deaths, throughout her career. She is currently researching public responses to tragedy and the impact of social media on how people cope with loss. Sofka’s expert opinions were included in this article about Williams’ death from The Christian Science Monitor.

Conditioning to the Core
