The New York State Broadcasters Association is recognizing Siena College’s radio station 88.3 FM WVCR “The Saint” for its commitment to serving the Capital Region.

WVCR’s weekly talk show “Change Makers” was awarded the New York State Broadcasters Association 2014-2015 Serving New York Award. The honor recognizes “Change Makers” for consistently making the effort to serve the community for which it broadcasts.

“Our Change Makers program is a direct extension the Franciscan Mission here at Siena College,” said WVCR General Manager Darrin Scott Kibbey. “We’re honored to receive this statewide recognition from the largest group of broadcasters in the nation.”

“Change Makers” gives its listeners insight into the latest community service and social justice happenings in the Capital Region. Bonner Service Leaders Millie Condon ’15 and Kate Bender ’16 host the show and lead in-depth discussions with a variety of engaging guests who are often change agents in their communities. Bonner Service Leaders George Lopez '15, Colleen Curran '18 and Caylin Dadeo-Winick 15, and AmeriCorps VISTA Fellows Sasha Miller and Jimmy Bulmer '12 are also part of the "Change Makers" team.

“Change Makers” supports the Siena College mission of building a world that is more just, peaceable and humane. It was pioneered by former Siena College AmeriCorps VISTA Fellow Jennifer Hunt and Brian Dorrian ’12. The show launched in March of 2011 with hosts Yalitza Negron ’08, Gretchen Mielke and Mathew Johnson ’93, Ph.D., director of Academic Community Engagement. Now a student led initiative, “Change Makers” continues to share the inspiring stories of people making a difference in the local community.

The show airs on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and podcasts of each program are available on iTunes U.

“Change Makers” is the second WVCR show to win the NYSBA Serving New York Award. “Capital Green Scene” won in 2012-13.
