For 40 years, Saturday Night Live has added humor and fun to people’s weekends. At Siena College another “SNL” does the same thing. Siena Night Life creates fun, free, late-night events for students.
The Saturday night programs are run through Siena’s Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development and they include a variety of different events, such as live performances, interactive game shows, movie screenings and trips off campus to places like the trampoline park.
“With SNL, we bring out what we believe everyone should experience in their college years here,” said SNL Event Coordinator Fabrice Michel ’17 who wanted to make the most out of his Siena experience and joined the SNL team his freshman year.
Students like Michel work together to come up with creative programs, find vendors, plan catering, shop for all necessary supplies and promote their Siena Night Life events. SNL debuted last spring as a replacement to the Late Night Sarazen program. Since its launch, SNL has introduced bigger prizes at events, off-campus activities and more student dances, like last year’s “Wild West” themed Sienafest dance.
“Especially this year, a lot more people, including people who would usually go to parties, would start to venture into our events,” said SNL Event coordinator Annie Pryor ’17.
Pryor and Caylin Dadeo-Winick ’16 planned a “paint and sip” event in the Maloney Great Room. They provided drinks, snacks and canvases and were pleasantly surprised by the number of painters that turned out.
“The event was so successful and we had such an overwhelming number of people that we actually had to start painting on cardstock because we had such a high volume of students come,” Dadeo-Winick said.
Whether students are painting and sipping, dancing, or jumping around a trampoline park, they’re having fun and making memories that will last a lifetime.
“We try to make these events some of the biggest things students remember when they leave Siena,” said Michel.
