Four senior marketing majors, including second place winner Erin Grogan, participated in the 9th Annual Russ Berrie Institute National Sales Challenge at William Paterson University, N.J., from November 18 to 20.

Team members Allison Bosse ’16, Amanda Buonagurio ’16, Erin Grogan ’16, and Jenna Potter ’16 represented Siena in the competition that was comprised of 72 participants from 36 elite schools around the country. The students gained feedback on their sales performances and abilities from corporate executives and obtained valuable, real-world knowledge in such a competitive environment over the course of the three days.

Of the 72 contenders, Grogan came out on top, winning second place in the speed selling competition that focused on personal sales pitches. This is the first time Siena has recieved an award in this event that is typically geared  towards sales students, marking a momentous milestone in its history.

“The team spent an extensive amount of time since September preparing for the Sales Challenge and reflects the dedication and talents of Siena students,” said Michael Pepe, D.B.A., associate professor of marketing and mentor for the group. “The basic business functions of businesses are marketing and sales, and the high demand and earning potential for our majors is consistent with the value and significance of a marketing degree.”

Pepe highlighted that all four students met with and were interviewed by on-site recruiting representatives and executives from major corporations and sponsoring organizations, and will be offered jobs prior to graduation.

“I am extremely lucky and thankful that Siena afforded me the experience of attending the competition,” said Grogan. “I made some incredible contacts from businesses and universities across the country and learned valuable experience that has both helped prepare and excite me for my bright, professional future.”
