Part of Siena College’s promise to provide the education of a lifetime is preparing students for career success. Throughout the month of March, the College offered events to help students learn about résumé writing, interviewing, dressing professionally and job opportunities in their fields of interest.

Along with the Career, Internship and Graduate School Fair, Siena’s business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi hosted its second Dress for Success Fashion Show.  Students and faculty hit the runway to model both appropriate and unacceptable business attire, giving students a fun way to learn how to make a good first impression at job interviews.

Career Services Coordinator Kathleen Kiernan used her past fashion experience to help students plan the event.  A portion of the show’s proceeds went to Dress for Success Albany, an organization that helps disadvantaged women gain professional attire, develop career development skills and the confidence they need to secure jobs and improve their lives.

This year, Dress for Success introduced an on-campus boutique sale offering name brand business attire for purchase at prices that would fit a college student’s budget.

“Why not have really wonderful clothes available to the students here on campus where they can get really good interview attire for ten dollars or less,” said Albany Dress for Success Program Manager Jennifer Stoner.

Having new, professional clothes allowed Siena students to look their best as they met with representatives from more than 110 organizations in search of internships and job opportunities and potential graduate schools during the annual Career, Internship and Graduate School Fair.

“The Career Fair is an opportunity to develop those communication and networking skill sets and really expand their network,” said Ashley Dwyer ’08, assistant director for employer relations. “We also really want students to come in and see us multiple times throughout their time here as students.”

Whether they are trying to spruce up their wardrobe, polish their résumé, practice for an interview or connect with a company, Siena’s Career Center is truly a one-stop-shop for students looking to take the next step in their career pursuits.
