When Siena College's fiscal year ends on May 31st it will have smashed through a $50 million fundraising goal by raising more than $65 million during a five-year comprehensive campaign.

The total is more than double what Siena raised in its last campaign in 2003.

The support for Siena was both broad and deep, with more than 14,000 donors in total, and 16 donors contributing $1 million or more.

The funds will be used for a wide array of initiatives including the college’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (CURCA); Stewart’s Advanced Instrument and Technology (SAInT) Center; Stack Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship; scholarship and endowment funds; athletics; the McCormick Center for the Study of the American Revolution; the Veteran and Cadet Fund, and more.

“We are blessed to have the support of so many who value the education of a lifetime Siena provides to students,” said Siena College President Brother F. Edward Coughlin, O.F.M., Ph.D. “We are extraordinarily grateful for their generosity.”

The campaign received donations from 5,783 new first-time donors to Siena, representing 39% of all donors and making clear that the college’s reputation is as strong – or stronger – today than at any time in the school’s 75-year history.

David B. Smith, ’79, Vice President for Development and External Affairs, noted the success of the campaign during an uncertain economy.

“This campaign was launched during a very difficult time in the economy, and we are ecstatic about how our community of donors and supporters responded,” Mr. Smith said.

Siena’s development office kept the administration costs to just 17 cents per dollar, or 20 percent lower than the national average of 21 to 23 cents.

The Siena community celebrated the successful campaign,as well as the 25th Anniversary Scholarship Dinner on Thursday, April 14 at the Celebrating Our Milestones event.
