Siena’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a public viewing of the solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21.

The viewing will be directed by Dr. George Hassel, and will be set up at 1PM between parking lot F and the first base side of the baseball field.

The eclipse will not be total in upstate New York, but we should be able to see about 65 percent coverage, with the peak coverage time between 2:30-2:45PM. The event should wind down around 4PM.

Dr. Rose Finn and Dr. John Moustakas will be traveling to the “zone of totality” to observe the eclipse – Dr. Finn to Clemson, South Carolina and Dr. Moustakas to Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Dr. MaryAnne Egan of Computer Science will observe the eclipse in Portland, Oregon.
