All full-time students will be signed up for health insurance through ANTHEM and charged for it on your bill.

However, if you already have another health insurance plan (for instance, through your parent's plan), it's very important to complete a waiver before July 20th to prevent any problems with your coverage and ensure that your other plan is not affected.

The Waiver

Waive health coverage if you have existing comparable coverage that is accepted in Albany, NY.

Deadline for a full refund of the fee is September 20th.

IMPORTANT DATES

July 20th - prevent enrollment and get 100% refund of the insurance fee.
September 20th -  full refund of the insurance fee and retroactive cancellation of enrollment
January 30th - for new Spring semester students only -  full refund of the Spring insurance fee and retroactive cancellation of enrollment.

Please note: Requests to cancel the student health insurance plan accepted after the waiver deadline will result in a pro-rated refund of the insurance fee as of the end of the month in which the request along with the documentation of existing current other insurance is received, not a full refund.

Requests to terminate coverage after the published deadlines should be made via email to studentlife@siena.edu.

WHY INSURANCE COVERAGE

As a college student, you know the importance of having access to the health care you need – when and where you need it.  Siena College also recognizes the importance of a student’s ability to pay for medical expenses when they arise, so that the educational opportunity is not jeopardized.

Accordingly, per Siena College policy, all full-time students must have health insurance coverage for routine and non-emergency care in the Albany, NY, area.

To ensure compliance with this policy
  • All full-time students are automatically enrolled and billed via their Siena student account.
  • Students must complete an on-line waiver verifying alternative health insurance coverage to cancel their enrollment if they have other existing insurance that covers them in the Capital Region.
  • Must be completed each academic year by the posted deadline to opt out of the plan.
  • Once a waiver is completed and approved, the coverage will be cancelled and a refund of the fee will be posted on the student's account.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

All international students attending Siena College full time are required to be enrolled in the student health insurance plan in order to ensure adequate local coverage. International students may not waive the Siena student health insurance plan.

If an international student believes they have a comparable domestic US health insurance plan they may request a review for an exemption from the requirement to purchase the Anthem Siena plan by contacting the Office of Student Life via email at studentlife@siena.edu or phone (518) 783-2328. Exemptions are done on a case by case basis by the Associate Vice President for Student Life/Dean of Students and the Director of Health Services. Their decision is final.
