Thursday, April 26, 2012
Michael Pepe ’90, D.B.A., assistant professor of marketing, was recently recognized by the Journal of Product and Brand Management for an outstanding research paper. Titled “The Impact of Private Label Brands on Customer Loyalty and Product Category Profitability,” his paper was one of four papers chosen worldwide for this honor.
“Our research found that excessive reliance on store brands at the expense of national brands like Coke and Pepsi could be detrimental to the financial performance of organizations. Consumers prefer an assortment of brands,” Pepe said.
He served as the lead author of the paper and worked with two other colleagues from Nova Southeastern University and Susquehanna University.
“This is a significant honor, which attests to the high quality research being conducted at Siena College,” Jeff Mello, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business said.
Pepe credits his fellow faculty members for inspiring him. “This honor is about how Siena faculty members approach research projects with the goal to present and publish at international conferences and publications each year,” Pepe said. “This is just another example of Siena College meeting a goal.”
Raj Devasagayam, Ph.D., chair of the Marketing Department commented, "The Journal of Product and Brand Management is a premier journal in the area of brand management, held in high regard throughout the marketing community. To be honored as one of the best intellectual contributions is a spot reserved for very few papers. This honor places the Siena name among the elite schools of business around the world."
Pepe recently returned from Chicago, Ill. with his nephew, Michael R. Pepe ’12, where they presented their research paper titled “The Impact of Country of Origin and Consumer Ethnocentrism on Salient Product Construct Evaluations ” at a Marketing Management Association Conference. Siena College had the most undergraduate research papers presented at the conference.
